It's a film about UFOs (unidentified flying objects), including a man going wild with some mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoe scene was probably the most interesting in this tripe.
I don't understand people who think that by showing us encounters with aliens on a movie screen we are supposed to gawp in awe at the amazingness of it all. Those are fictional aliens in your fictional movie, so no I don't find it emotionally overwhelming in the same way that it might be if real aliens landed on our planet and started playing some tune or another.
Beep-booping aliens, mashed potato mountains, and people in 1940s costumes unloading from a spaceship does not constitute a plot.
