It's a stinker, a total mess. It makes the heroine look like an utter fool of a woman. Meryl Streep's extremely bogus Danish accent doesn't help.
I read the book some years after seeing this awful film and was very surprised how good a book it was, quite different from this film. The truly awful dialogue of the film isn't in the book.
No matter how bad the plot and the dialogue, I still have to give three stars because there are some fantastic scenes, such as the flight scene in the biplane.
