A Simple Favor (2018)

The central performance is too wooden

It's an OK film with an OK story, and most of the cast are good, especially Blake Lively brings her crazy character to life well, as does the Malaysian guy who plays her husband, but the camera spends most of its time lingering on Anna Kendrick. Yes she is a very physically attractive woman. But her performance in this picture is not too great.

Anna doesn't seem much like a mother, and she doesn't seem at all like a cooking blogger, and she is just ridiculous as an amateur detective - were those scenes with Nylon meant to be comedy? They fall flat either way. Kendrick does come across well in the romantic scenes though.

I suppose there is some reason for all the music in the picture being in French, and this reason is well known to the cognescenti, but it's actually a little offputting, music in a film shouldn't be this distracting.
