Cliffhanger (1993)

Needlessly nasty and incompetent criminals versus Stallone

A group of criminals have a get-rich-quick scheme involving stealing some banknotes. What causes their downfall is that these criminals much prefer being extremely nasty to other people over trying to successfully complete their theft.

John Lithgow, the leader of the crims, makes a point out of killing and threatening people, even his own subordinates, when it doesn't seem at all necessary.

Similarly, one of his subordinates makes a point out of endlessly rabbiting on about "b***hes" to Sylvester Stallone during a fight, rather than actually defeating him, and his unpleasant monologue is what gives "Sly" the opportunity to overcome him.

The other crims similarly seem to prefer making as many nasty remarks as they can over actually finding the money.

I suppose the point of all this is to make us glad when Sly defeats these "extra-nasty" villains with his various macho skills, including grimacing and acting hurt, but the pantomime villains versus Land-Rover driving Stallone is silly and the CGI climax, with helicopter versus cliff-face, is very unconvincing.
