Seinfeld (1989-1998)

A bunch of idiots

Seinfeld is a work of genius, in that it takes people behaving like utter fools, and runs with it. Each episode wilfully teeters on the verge of cringe and embarrassment, and brings us back again. The skill with which it's done is what makes this great comedy. There are many episodes where I can't stop laughing.

It's not a show about nothing or a show about neurotic people. Jerry is somewhat neurotic, but the basic plot line is that either Jerry or one or the other of Jerry's remarkably stupid friends, either egomaniacal George, plain maniacal Kramer, or Elaine, makes some kind of stupid decision or another and gets into a pickle. So basically we are laughing at people doing incredibly stupid things and getting into ever-more-ridiculous situations.
