There's the Rub (9 April 2002)

Jumping the shark

The episode in the spa with Lorelei and her mother and the subsequent bar visit was pure shark-jumping cringe. I tried to watch more episodes but I just couldn't after this. The scenes with Jess, Paris, and ever-more-irritating Dean was just the icing on the cake.

What does the extremely beautiful Rory actually see in either petulant, passive-aggressive, perpetually whining Dean, or snarky, sneaky weakling Jess? Why does Lorelei's mother's personality change from episode to episode, so that one minute she is dedicated to one set of beliefs, and the next episode she is dedicated to a completely different set of beliefs, all apparently solely to irritate Lorelei.

I can't believe people enjoy watching this kind of cringe unfold.
