Magnum Force (1973)

Clint versus the bad boys

Harry (Clint) might be "dirty" but he's not that dirty!

A bunch of bad-boy cops led by baby-faced David Soul (Starsky and Hutch) and Robert Urich (Dan Tanner from Las Vegas) have gone rogue and decided to meet out justice in the form of hot lead to ne'er-do-wells and evil-doers on the streets.

Harry is not having any of that. He might be dirty, but he's not that dirty! Harry is tough, but he's an honest man who knows his limitations.

It was a great idea for a sequel to the original Dirty Harry, where Harry is presented as somewhat "outside the law", to make a story where Harry comes up against a bunch who are even more outside the law than him, to the extent that he just has to do something about it.

There are a couple of flaws. As usual, Clint is cool and stylish, but he doesn't really come across as much of a tough guy, and the scene with the long-haired lover from Liverpool is completely out of place. Apparently it was put in at Clint's insistence against the advice of the screenwriters.

Anyway this is pretty good, especially considering it's a sequel, and the "bad boy" cops come across quite with quite convincing menace.
