Get Carter (1971)

The decline and fall of Carter

Carter is out for revenge, somebody killed his brother, and in true Alexei Sayle style he must journey to Newcastle-upon-Tyne to quiz people with the line "Didn't you, didn't you, didn't you kill my brother?"

Carter's determination to get to the bottom of things is underscored by him bumping off a woman, appearing with a shotgun outside a terraced house, and informing an unfortunate person that for him beating people up is a full time job, not to mention that Carter insists on having a straight glass to drink beer from, which demonstrates some kind of beer-drinking prowess only known to real men, or something.

It's quite an exciting thriller, but the lead character Carter is unsympathetic, the scenes of blabbing on about Carter's brother in the pub don't really make sense, and the ending of the film makes one wonder what the point was of all the rest of it.
