I don't think it has much to do with Robert B. Parker's formulaic Spenser books, although the characters have the same names.
Wahlberg crashes and bangs around town and a dog track, gets beaten up, smashes some places up with the help of "Hawk", has a poodle-trimmer girlfriend (wasn't Spenser's girlfriend a lawyer or something?)
Anyway it's mediocre, formulaic stuff, but not the Robert B. Parker formula.
